WHY PHOTOSPHERE

The cloud was never the answer.

Apple, Google, Amazon — they all want your memories on their servers, behind their paywall, scanned by their algorithms. PhotoSphere flips it. Your photos stay where they belong: with you.

True privacy. Verifiable.

No accounts. No telemetry. No analytics. Run Wireshark — outbound traffic is zero. The privacy isn't a policy; it's a property of the design.

Pay once. Own it.

iCloud at $11.88/mo is $1,425 over 10 years. PhotoSphere is one purchase, one perpetual license, every v1.x update for free. See the math →

AI on your machine.

Faces, objects, scenes, OCR, semantic search, magic eraser. Nine ONNX models running locally. Type "sunset over mountains" — find it in 200ms. Explore AI →

Native Rust speed.

Built on Tauri 2 + Rust + SQLite. 63 MB installer with bundled AI models and ffmpeg. Cold start under a second. 50,000-photo libraries scroll at 60 FPS.

LAN sync, encrypted.

End-to-end encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Pair with a 6-digit code. Devices find each other over mDNS. No middleman, no bandwidth cap. How sync works →

Open formats. No lock-in.

Your library is a regular folder. Database is SQLite. Edits are sidecar XMP. Drop PhotoSphere tomorrow and every original is exactly where you put it.

SEMANTIC SEARCH

Find any photo by describing it.

Type what you remember. CLIP runs on your device, builds a semantic index of every photo, and matches the meaning of your query — not just filenames or tags.

  • "red car at night" — finds it without any tag.
  • "birthday cake 2019" — date and content, combined.
  • "my dog playing in snow" — even works for pets.
  • OCR: search text inside photos (receipts, signs, screenshots).

FACE RECOGNITION

Faces clustered. Names you give.

RetinaFace detects every face. ArcFace produces a 512-dim embedding. We cluster locally with cosine similarity. You name them once — they're tagged across every photo, every album, forever.

  • Pet recognition included (dogs, cats — same pipeline).
  • Merge clusters when the AI splits the same person.
  • Hide a person from search and Memories.
  • Export a "best of" album for any face in 2 clicks.
MAGIC ERASER

Remove anything. Without the cloud.

Power lines in your sunset? Strangers in your vacation shot? Brush over them. LaMa inpainting fills the area with realistic content — running entirely on your CPU or GPU.

  • Brush, lasso, or rectangle selection.
  • Non-destructive — original is always preserved.
  • Background remover (U2Net) for product shots.
  • Sky replacement via segmentation + alpha blend.

LAN SYNC

Sync without a server in the middle.

Each device runs a tiny encrypted HTTP server on your home Wi-Fi. Photos move device-to-device at LAN speed (80–200 MB/s). Never round-trip through Cupertino or Mountain View.

  • End-to-end AES-256-GCM with per-peer keys.
  • Selective sync: all, favorites, last year, or tagged-only.
  • CRDT-based shared albums (edit offline, merge cleanly).
  • Hub mode: designate one always-on machine for the family.
CLOUD SOURCES — NEW

OneDrive, Dropbox, Apple, Google — pulled in.

Connect your existing cloud accounts. PhotoSphere copies photos to your local library and indexes them with the same AI, search, and editor as everything else. Selective sync, pause / resume, bring-your-own OAuth credentials.

  • OneDrive + Dropbox: live delta sync with HTTP Range resume.
  • Apple Photos (Mac): incremental, picks up new captures in seconds.
  • Google Photos Picker: one-shot import (Library API was restricted for new apps in March 2025).
  • Google Takeout: full-archive migration with album membership and EXIF/GPS recovery.
  • OAuth tokens live in your OS keychain — never in the database, never on a server.
